Who I Am
Author and Digital Artist
Hello, I'm M.K. Eidson. My DBA name is Eposic, registered in the state of Florida. As a hobbyist, I've been writing fiction since the mid-1960s, and creating digital artwork since the mid-1980s. I don't claim to be an expert at either.
I have no special training, but I have studied both crafts via books and online resources and lots of experimentation and practice. I feel I've learned enough to produce art and fiction of sufficient quality to share. That's the intent for this site. I don't intend to offend anyone, but I create what the muse inspires me to create, knowing some of it may not be well received by everyone.
I admit to being eccentric.
My wife and I help each other get through life, and our little Jack Russell Terrier girl dog helps us both. For me, creating art and writing fiction also helps. If what I produce can bring others some joy, too, that would please me greatly.
I'm working on a fantasy novel, and getting closer to having something I feel worth publishing. If you enjoy adult-oriented fantasy fiction, maybe you'll enjoy my story. To be informed when my novel or other fictional or artistic work is available, be sure to subscribe below.
In case you were wondering...
Where did you grow up?
I was born in Missouri and spent the first 27 years of my life there. My parents weren't rich in money, but they were rich in love, and my paternal grandparents owned land and the house I grew up in. We didn't have running water for many years, but we had cattle and chickens, walnut trees, blackberry and gooseberry bushes, and multiple gardens. We hunted on the land for squirrels and rabbits and raccoons. I learned to shoot a .22 rifle and was pretty decent at it.
Scorpions and copperhead snakes were the biggest threats on the farm, but I also saw a rat once that I swear stood as tall at the shoulder as our little Jack Russell Terrier does now. That thing looked meaner than any raccoon I ever saw. Which reminds me, we had a pet raccoon when I was 4 years old. That was pretty wild.
What kind of education do you have?
I have a comprehensive Bachelors of Science degree in Mathematics (no minor, but some concentration on Computer Science) from Missouri State University (formerly Southwest Missouri State University). I also have a Masters of Science degree in Applied Mathematics, with a focus on Computer Algorithms, from the University of Missouri - Columbia.
What's your day job now?
How long have you been working on your debut novel?
I first attempted to write novel-length fantasy fiction back in the 70s, after I graduated from high school. But I never got very far with such attempts. My first serious attempt at writing my debut fantasy novel was in late 2012.
I've been studying the craft of writing all along, and as I learned more, I realized that what I'd written wasn't highly salable in today's market. So I've scrapped the story several times and started over. I'm on my seventh draft of the novel now.
Some might say I'm striving too much for perfection. I admit that might be an issue for me. So I'm committed to the current version of the novel, and will submit it to an agent once I polish it. If I can find an agent to represent me, great. If not, I'll self-publish and not look back.
Why is this site called Ethereality?
Because I like the juxtaposition of the words "ethereal" and "reality". While I don't use the word "ethereality" in my debut fantasy novel, the story explores the lines between the real and the unreal, between truth and belief, between life and death, and between justice and the perception of it.
